This is absolutely a beautiful and romantic restaurant. Which is a really good thing, because the quality of the food was disappointing. Not to say that the food was terrible - it was very average - but I definetely expected a little more of an impressive meal.

Upon arriving at Shadowbrook and seeing the beautiful gardens and landscaping you can't help but anticipate that it will be a very special restaurant. Parking is high above the actual restaurant and you can either walk down the stairs and by the gardens to get into the restaurant or take a slanted elevator/trolley down the hillside. The restaurant is very pretty and inviting in a pleasant, rustic type of way -- quite a welcome change from the plethora of sleek contemporary restaurants that seem to abound these days. Unfortunately the food was merely adequate, some of it seemed like it might have been pre-prepared or even pre-packaged. Nothing we had was that special and it was overpriced. It would be a nice place to stop for a drink and perhaps an appetizer and to enjoy how pretty it is, but I cannot imagine bothering to have dinner there again.

Pros: beautiful setting

Cons: food just OK

I have been going here for special occasions for many, many years. (The restaurant is like 60 years old) The last few years have been some of the best meals I have ever had....anywhere. New talent in the kitchen a few years back, I hear. Because the food is so good we now go when aren't celebrating something but when we just want a really good meal. If I could afford it, I would eat here once a week. The bar has its own menu and is just as good as the dining room.

Pros: Great food, BEAUTIFUL, Free parking

Cons: Can be crowded

Just had a great evening at the Shadowbrook. So many friends had recommended it that we were afraid our expectations would be too high, but the food was delicious, service was friendly and attentive, and ambience was perfect. Booked our reservations with opentable.com and were seated immediately, even though the restaurant was packed full! Nice mix of young and old, casual and dressy. Leave time to find parking on a Saturday night though!

Pros: great food, great service

Cons: parking difficult

From the tram that brings you into the heart of the restaurant to the water running though it, there is no more romantic place to dine in the Bay Area, period. Take a drive to Capitola at night, eat at the restaurant, and stay at one of the many hotels for the night and you have the perfect romantic evening.

Pros: The Tram, Overall Ambience, Excellent Food

Married my wife there in 2001, everything from the service to the setting was perfect, Food was good, and the cost compared to other venues available was right in line. When everything in the Bay aarea is so expensive and crowded, why not drive a few miles south and enjoy a very romantic dinner

Pros: good service, great atmosphere, uncrowded

we didn't have reservations so we went for the first-come, first-serve seating in the lounge and had the pleasure of sitting in front of the station where chef nico worked.. watching him work was more than enough entertainment. our food was excellent-- places that cost twice as much didn't taste half as good.. view of the river behind the restaurant and the antique elevator were icing on the cake. this is the only restaurant where i've actually wanted to go home and post a review on the 'net after eating there. highly recommended!

Pros: Excellent Food, Friendly Staff

Cons: Crowded, Hard to find parking

Last year my fiance's birthday rolled around and caught me by suprise! Not wanting this to get in the way of her special day, I had to move fast! I had always wanted to visit Shadowbrook and couldn't think of a better time to do so. I will just say the both she and I were literally breathless from the moment we arrived....absolutely everything was PERFECT! From the trolley ride down to the bar, to the escort to our table. Not to mention the outstanding service...and the food! The best either of us had ever had! Thanks for the memories....we will DEFINATELY BE BACK!!!

Pros: Great Location, Unique Design, Outstanding Food&Svc

Cons: N/A

One of the most beautiful dining spots in Northern California, creekside setting just a couple of blocks from Capitola beach on Monterey Bay. Gorgeous bar, great food and wine list. Excellent service.

Pros: Free parking
