Finally, a nice place to drink! – I'm sure some people are sad to see the nicotine stained ceiling, filthy beer/vom*t soaked carpet and the scariest public restrooms ever, go away. But for me, born and raised in Pleasure Point, I couldn't be happier. All I can say is that it's about time! I never considered going out for a drink in the Pleasure Point area because all the bars were smokey, dirty and occupied by full-time, hard-core(usually old) drinkers. The few times I did go out in the area it was for the novelty. But now, I can honestly say, The Castaways is a fun and comfortable place to go in the neighborhood. It's not smokey anymore, there is usually a very cool, ecclectic mix of people in there, and it's clean. The staff has always been nice and the decore is semi-sophisticated but warm and inviting at the same time. Granted the dusty, neon beer signs and dirty mirrors are gone, and for that change some old crusties might not like it, but it still feels like a neighborhood bar...yet younger and friendlier. I recommend anybody check it out, have an open mind and be ready to party. We no longer have to drive downtown...WOO-HOO!!
not like the old castaways – castaways has gone through major changes over the last few years. first Danny and Angie were running it with them and jake bartending. back then it was a dive bar but it had a lot of heart. the decor was old school with beer signs, football stuff and photos.
then the owner turned it into some lame surfer/skater wanna be bar, painted it light blue, hung some skateboards on the walls, lost the old crowd.
another new owner later, it is completely remodelled it and it now looks like it belongs in another town all together. maple floors, modern brushed nickle lighting, new pool tables (VERY NICE) but has no character at all. it does not belong on the Point, it has NO heart whatsoever and drinks are expensive.
but...if you're into that, it does have a nice, if not cold, look to it.
