Stretching from Santa Cruz to Monterey, this is one of the most scenic drives in Northern California.. Overview
Skip any drive but the one down Highway 1 on a road trip. Though often precarious and slow, the twisting old road takes you through a plethora of beautiful ocean views and pastoral seaside farmland.

The Experience
Aside from making the obligatory visit to Cannery Row (the area memorialized in John Steinbeck's books), you can't miss Monterey's world-famous aquarium, which is built right into one of the largest marine reserves in the world. One of the best ways to explore Monterey Bay is by boat, and there are several boat and kayak rental services in the area. Wildlife enthusiasts take note: Some of the best whale and sea lion watching anywhere can be found in Monterey Bay. Venture out on the Wharf in Santa Cruz--many restaurants and bars feature astounding views of the water.
