Be Careful of the Blacks in front of Cigar Shop!. My daughter and three friends were attacked by 6 black men with dread locks and gold grills for yelling back to these so-called men. These losers are from Oakland, they come to santa cruz to sell drugs. They say nasty things to good looking girls when walking by. If you tell them to shut up, they chase you and attack you by punching you in the head. Even smaller women, 5'2" all of 100 lbs. This has to stop. The cops didn't even take a report.

Home Away From Home. I come over the hill every weekend just to hang out at The Avenue. Kim, the bartender, is THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!! Everyone is laid back, there are never any problems. All kinds of people to chat it up with. I highly recommend checking it out =)

User review by kjone. The Avenue has always been considered the dive bar but I have found that it's not as bad as some people have made it out to be. There is a nice patio area out back that is open certin nights, it has a little bar that offers $4 pitcher of beer. All the people that are there are really nice and the atmosphere is really laid back.

Inbreds under the influence. Make sure to bring your mullet and a pig. The scene is one of Quiet Riot T-shirts and testosterone filled attitudes. The Avenue would be the ideal after-work bar for Jerry Springer guest and unless you are a girl that enjoys going back to some guy's trailer park after a few drinks, I would suggest the Red Room down the street.
