Editorial Review for Casablanca Restaurant – by James Wevley
The Scene
Attached to the Casa Blanca Inn, this restaurant has a basic, yet classy interior; white tablecloths, light music, dim lighting. The simple decor highlights the almost 180-degree view of Monterey Bay, the Wharf and the beach. Diners are an eclectic group--ranging from tourists who have clearly spent the day on the beach to young couples looking for an intimate meal.
The Food
Specializing in steak and seafood, Casablanca's menu features simple, well-prepared American dishes. Fried brie with jalapeno jelly and oysters on the half shell are tempting and well-portioned appetizers. The penne pasta with chicken, mushrooms and sun-dried tomatoes is a hearty entree. Likewise, the tasty steaks, served with vegetables and potatoes, don't disappoint. Generally considered one of Santa Cruz's best restaurants, the Casablanca is the perfect stop for a romantic dinner.

So classy, so delicious, so abundant and exquisite! We are very grateful for the enthusiasm and artistry with which you made our vision a reality. My personal favorites were the spicy shrimp and the clam chowder. Oh, and the cheese with candied walnuts...yummy EVERYTHING! Was impressed and excited by the food. The level of service was also amazing, and we especially appreciated the warm presence of both of you. Thank you so much for doing such a brilliant job.

We have eaten at Casablanca many times over the years. We are puzzled how anyone can not be delighted with the appetizers --try the calamari; and the entrees --try the Chicken Tarragon or poached salmon; and the desserts -- try the creme brullee or their speciality walnut-chocolate pie. We have always had friendly service; and the spectacular view is available from every table as the floor level is tiered. If you haven't eaten at "the Casa" you are missing a real treat!
Pros: great food, service, and setting
