Hotels >Torch Lite Inn
Nothing to complain. We stayed here one night in December. The room was clean, comfortable and pretty cheap including the usual amenities (TV, fridge, coffee-maker, free parking etc). The hotel is just a short walk (5-10 minutes) from the beach and the amusement park. Restaurants and small grocery stores can also be found nearby.
I'd stay here again. For around $75 for a Saturday night stay, the room was clean and quite large. Check-in was easy and room was available immediately. Pool was completely drained, but not a problem given the time of the year. I'd stay there again. Only a stone throw away from the boardwalk, yet very quiet.
Decent prices compared to anywhere else near Santa Cruz. If all you need is a place to sleep and a shower in the morning, it's perfectly adequate. Our room was clean, didn't stink and, given we were on the ground floor, next to the stairs and facing the pool, was surprisingly quite. The breakfast is a joke but there are great places to eat downtown which was a 2 minute drive or a 10 minute walk away. 4 blocks to the Bordwalk and Wharf. My cousin, who lives in Santa Cruz, thinks the neighborhood's a bit sketchy but I've lived in sketchy and this seemed pretty tame. All in all, if I needd to hit S.C. for an overnighter like we did this time, I go back - the price was right too
A really good deal for being in Santa Cruz.
I was on a quick overnight trip to Santa Cruz with my 10 year old daughter and her friend. I only paid $75 for the night at the Torch Lite Inn via Priceline, which is a really good deal for Santa Cruz.
+ the pool was good, the kids loved it
+ it's within walking distance of the downtown area (Pacific Ave) and the boardwalk)
+ Covered parking was a plus
Very easy to get to the boardwalk and beach!.
Pool area was clean and the outdoor pool was warm (heated). Many other pools in the same area are not heated.
The hotel is about a 10 minute walk to the Boardwalk and the beach.
Everything was alright about that hotel. Staff was friendly, pool was clean, room was cozy and clean. Yes, it is in the "not-so-safe" neighbourhood - but that is also true for any street in Santa Cruz neighbouring the famous The Boardwalk Theme Park. We did not notice anything bad around. And we jogged for about 3 miles on both days we stayed in Best Western Torch-Lite Inn. They also did some renovations in the hotel, everything looked fresh. We did use a refridgerator in a room and a pool. They have a continental breakfast at the hotel, but we did not use it because there were so many bakeries in Santa Cruz area...yummy. The hotel is close to a beach and local fisherman's wharf. In one of the previous reviews someone complained about 4 long blocks to The Boardwalk and beach. That is not true. Consider it as a nice relaxing walk. Everything in close in walking distance. Otherwise you can always drive a mile or two. Overall, the hotel is good for just 100 dollars a night during a season. We would definitely stay there again.
We've stayed in the Torch-Lite Inn about five times.. Its not to spectacular, but it is so central and easy, we will probably stay again in the future. In the afternoon on a Friday this July the camp grounds were filling up and we decided we wanted a room instead so we pulled over near the boardwalk. We got a suite with 2 queen beds, microwave and fridge. We got it for about $20 more than it would have been to stay in a really sketchy motel a block south of there, but since we'd stayed there before we decided to go with what we know. It was worth it, we weren't disappointed at all.The beds were comfortable. Having the fridge was nice. We skipped the continental breakfast, all they had was svenheart pastries but there are so many good vegan restaurants around there we were able to walk to breakfast. We did use the AC fan for white noise and it effectively drowned out the noise from the pool/outside. You can't go wrong with free HBO. The shower head was hard but okay if you take short showers. The place was very clean. The pool was warm when the sun was shining on it but it wasn't heated at night and we only stayed in for a minute. On a side note, We miss the pineapple/carrot/tree/elephant leg that used to be in front of the Torch-Lite Inn...now the grounds look a little better and they are relying on landscaping with plants that are identifiable, ahve even thrown in some torch lights, so probably more people are happy but I miss the weird huge pineapple shaped tree that marked the Torch-Lite Inn for years.Santa Cruz is a strange place, it is a little rough around the edges and this neighborhood is one that I wouldn't want to be walking alone around at night, but with my hubby we make an adventure out of it. Friday nights the boardwalk puts on free shows right on the beach. Mary Wilson from the Supremes was playing the night we were there, two short shows starting at 6:30 and 8:30.
A good stay at real good prices. Friendly staff and clean room. Very reasonable price. Nothing fancy but good enough for a budget stay.
Thanks a Ton!. We just spent the night in Santa Cruz for our son's 6th birthday and had a blast! We reserved the room through Costco and felt it was a great deal for one night especially! The Inn was pleasant, well kept, and the landscape and pool was great and a lot of fun! We were surprised that the room had a fridge AND Microwave. The continental breakfast was perfect for the kids and very helpful. We were close enough to the boardwalk to walk and will definitely be staying here again!
