Poor Service, Mediocre Food. My wife and I went here because it looked like the only place that had open seating at the time. That and the big picture window on the outside of the building that looks into the kitchen looked pretty cool.

We ordered the simplest stuff we could find: Fish & Chips and a bread bowl of clam chowder. The couple next to us ordered there food at the same time as we did. They were all but finished with their meal by the time our food was brought to us. The explanation being that one of the food runners took my F&C to another table and they had to remake it.

When the food finally arrived, it was bland and rather non-descript.

Just Don't. This place exists on unsuspecting tourists. They've renamed themselves, but it's the same poor to mediocre food with the high prices. The only decent place to eat on the wharf is Riva's....don't get me started on how bad the other restaurants are! I have NOT eaten at the restaurant at the end of the wharf, but all others. DO not trust any of the Gilberts, Stagnaro, MiraMar, Ideal places.

Waste of valuble wharf space. So our party of 5 decides to eat at Gilberts under the assumption it was a very good restaurant, and we could not have been more disappointed. It took almost 20 min for the waiter to take our drink and appetizer order another 25 min to take our main order. and when my $4 beer finally got to me it was somewhat warm, especially since all of it ended up down the side of my leg and on my dates dress. After an incident like that, one might think, that you would receive... spectacular service? a free beer? complementary appetizer? an APOLOGY?? if you guessed, any of the above you are wrong, we received none of these and to top it all off, the $26 halibut "special" I ordered, was cold, mushy and had definitely been frozen for some amount of time. In lieu of that, it was placed on a "bed" of mashed potatoes which had the kinder garden paste-like texture of instant taters, and as far as the pop-corn shrimp, I've had better at my local Applebee"s, and I live 3 hours from the ocean. Thumbs way down- will not be eating here till new ownership.

Exists for tourists only. I broken one of my golden rules and went to the first restaurant we stumbled upon in a very touristy place. We should have explored a bit off the beaten track because Gilbert's was really not great. For the most part, the food was rather bland. We suspect the crab cakes were frozen. Even the french fries were undercooked and tasteless. The salmon burger was pretty good - everything else was pretty awful.

awesome view, ample serving. the view was awesome. seals, birds and the cliffs. the place is also suitable for romantic dinners. Great first date. the food was ok. we ordered the Golden Fried Prawns, the Fried scallops and the sirloin steak. The Prawns and the scallops were fried awesomely to a golden crisp., yummy but a bit bland and too dry. Too much flour i think esp the appetizer of shrimps, too much flour. But still it wasnt bad at all. The sirloin steak on the other hand was a bit rubbery. uhm... not that great.

but overall, i would still recommend the place :)
