Tips for Shadowbrook Restaurant

Five Stars For a Reason. From the time you take the quaint elevator down to the creekside restaurant until you leave, you will not be disappointed. Don't have a lot of time? Then you can walk into the bar area. My favorite item on the menu is the blackened lamb. The only thing one must be aware of is that you WILL need reservations.

A must for your out of town guests. A must go to when entertaining out of town guests, they will be delighted with the unique decor and delicious food. Pricey, this is a special occasion place for a full meal, but a fantastic local's secret for happy hour - get great small dishes and well mixed drinks at good prices and enjoy the atmosphere of the bar.

Best sirloin I have had on the West coast. This was a GREAT experience. Location on a hillside. Multi level and very appealing to the eye. The meal was the best I had in a weeklong visit to the Montereyarea. It was reasonable. Good waitstaf Perfectly cooked beef. Would have felt comfortable whether I was with children or with someone special for a romantic dinner for two. Wisg this place was closer to home. Did I say the beef was fabulous?f

Gorgeous atmosphere....But the food falls short. This is absolutely a beautiful and romantic restaurant. Which is a really good thing, because the quality of the food was disappointing. Not to say that the food was terrible - it was very average - but I definetely expected a little more of an impressive meal.

very pretty, but food does not measure up to expectations. Upon arriving at Shadowbrook and seeing the beautiful gardens and landscaping you can't help but anticipate that it will be a very special restaurant. Parking is high above the actual restaurant and you can either walk down the stairs and by the gardens to get into the restaurant or take a slanted elevator/trolley down the hillside. The restaurant is very pretty and inviting in a pleasant, rustic type of way -- quite a welcome change from the plethora of sleek contemporary restaurants that seem to abound these days. Unfortunately the food was merely adequate, some of it seemed like it might have been pre-prepared or even pre-packaged. Nothing we had was that special and it was overpriced. It would be a nice place to stop for a drink and perhaps an appetizer and to enjoy how pretty it is, but I cannot imagine bothering to have dinner there again.

Better than ever. I have been going here for special occasions for many, many years. (The restaurant is like 60 years old) The last few years have been some of the best meals I have ever had....anywhere. New talent in the kitchen a few years back, I hear. Because the food is so good we now go when aren't celebrating something but when we just want a really good meal. If I could afford it, I would eat here once a week. The bar has its own menu and is just as good as the dining room.

Lived up to the hype!. Just had a great evening at the Shadowbrook. So many friends had recommended it that we were afraid our expectations would be too high, but the food was delicious, service was friendly and attentive, and ambience was perfect. Booked our reservations with opentable.com and were seated immediately, even though the restaurant was packed full! Nice mix of young and old, casual and dressy. Leave time to find parking on a Saturday night though!

The Ultimate in Romance. From the tram that brings you into the heart of the restaurant to the water running though it, there is no more romantic place to dine in the Bay Area, period. Take a drive to Capitola at night, eat at the restaurant, and stay at one of the many hotels for the night and you have the perfect romantic evening.

Romantic. Married my wife there in 2001, everything from the service to the setting was perfect, Food was good, and the cost compared to other venues available was right in line. When everything in the Bay aarea is so expensive and crowded, why not drive a few miles south and enjoy a very romantic dinner
